Abril Linares Mendoza, a rising senior at Shady Side Academy Senior School, was a 面板ist at the League of American Orchestras 78th Annual National Conference, which was held in Pittsburgh on 小君e 14-16, 2023.
Linares Mendoza, a violinist, represented the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra in Friday morning's Youth Perspectives on Engaging with Orchestras 面板. She was one of two high school 面板ists at the event, and the only 面板ist representing Pittsburgh.
The goal of the 面板 was to deepen understanding of the priorities of the next generation in light of the findings of a nationwide survey of high school youth orchestra students, undergraduate and graduate music majors, and recent graduates. Topics included regarding who plans to attend concerts as an adult, who plans to donate to orchestras as an adult, their thoughts about orchestras’ work in equity, 多样性, and inclusion, and what barriers prevent them from going to more concerts.
