Senior School Students Tour HBCU Colleges Over Spring Break

Over spring break 2023, the Senior School offered sophomores and juniors affiliated with the Black Student Union the chance to join a five-day trip through North Carolina and Georgia to tour seven colleges, including five historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

The trip included admissions tours at North Carolina A&T State University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, Emory University, Georgia Tech, Morris Brown College and Clark Atlanta University, as well as activities such as bowling, skating and a visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park.

Fifteen students joined the trip, including juniors Ahniya Anthony, Samuel Benning, Trinity Brock, Lourdes Daughtry, Eddie DeBruce, Daniel Demchak, Deacon Durham, Ty Gilliard, Terrance Grate and Nathan Mallory, and sophomores Jalen Bey, RaSon Bookert, Cameron Capel, Beau Gilliard and Makiyah Mitchell. The trip was chaperoned by Chief Equity Inclusion and Community Relations Officer Lillian Grate, Chief Talent Recruitment and Development Officer Armani Davis, Senior School Math Teacher Justin-Jackson-Strong, and Senior School parents Tami and Edward DeBruce.
